An Afternoon in Chartres

3 mai
Today we took a group field trip to Chartres! Look at the pink dot that says Paris in the center of the map, and then go southwest and you'll find the pink dot that says Chartres.  It was about an hour train ride away.

As the TA for the study abroad, I am in charge of making sure everyone is there at every point in the journey so I am getting really good at counting to 27 and quickly identifying who is not there.  I'm tempted to just give everyone a number and then have them count off like we do for our countdown in our family.  It would make it much easier!

It was nice again to get out of the busy city to the calmer countryside.  In Chartres, I had kebab for lunch.  I remember having it in Germany and I wanted to see if it was as good, and it was!

I liked these cute windmill pastries at a bakery.

The famous Chartres cathedral!! This church was built in the 1100s! It is incredibly old but still gorgeous and impressive.

A beautiful moment happened when I went into the church and the organ was playing! It was incredible and my whole body felt the music and the vibrations.  There's nothing better than a gorgeous pipe organ in a gorgeous setting.

A cute old British man gave us a tour of the cathedral.  He has spent the last 50 years studying and giving tours of the cathedral.

They are in the process of repainting the church...it will all eventually be white.

Our tour guide told us about all the stories that  the stained glass windows tell.  This window is Jesus' family tree and shows who he descended from.

The incredible zoom on my camera got this close up picture of the angel appearing to Mary.

The pillars in the church alternate.  This pillar is a circle shape column with hexagon shaped smaller pillars around it.
